VIP:Proposal

I understand the concern about getting a return for the money but the main aim is ofcourse supporting Decerto and our growth alongside the community.

It seems like @TheHatchetMan 's suggestion plus this original VIP idea is the way forward. However, i would rather see people use the VIP service as a way to contribute to us and considering the amount of time you use Decerto and the amount of time staff put into Decerto it isn't asking much. But maybe reducing the price would be better?

Also, i did mention features which would use the funding from VIP members that will become exclusive to VIPs. Is there anything else that you would like to see added?

Considering adding a Tournament bracket system which would allow us to improve coverage of events.

@JNA You should do a VIP all inclusive where u get everything and then and chnge your title and username separately

create some sort of survey proposing different options and inbox it to all the members on de for a certain completion time, best way to find out imo. stops people trolling..

So you're outraged you use a free service that has advertisements to fund its basic infrastructure? That beyond that staff(volunteers) put in hours every day and week making sure this site is interesting for your visit.

Yeah you should be outraged. I'm mad just thinking about it all. Fuck the system, Decerto is full of ****s that do nothing for the community. How dare they take away my VIP... What is this..

I don't mean to be egotistical but it is widely known we've supported and helped this scene grow. We went from dwindling numbers at LAN to now having the biggest community at ECL. Which in turn creates great support for the community because organisations are willing to invest to tap into our community. Meaning teams can receive funding to go to events, meaning events have cash prizes which you're able to gain if you're good enough and meaning the gaming grows ever closer to becoming mainstream. I think we contribute well to the growth of esports and we want to do more but if funding is scarce it is difficult for us to grow and in turn grow the community. (Senior members of ECL staff have congratulated us on our efforts)

I don't think asking anyone to pay to attend LAN, to be a particular member of a website or to use a service. Because nothing in this world is free and comes without cost to somebody. People here do a great job and the community in the past has always been sceptical about supporting business in the gaming industry. But, if you don't support it how would it ever grow? How would you ever potentially receive a benefit?

Same thing applies to those people that run Adblockers on Decerto. These advertisements enable us to operate the site and provide upgrades, without this money it would be relying on key members of the team to fund Decerto for everyone elses benefit. This has been done possibly for the last two years out of three since we launched in 2008.

Anyway, consider how much money you waste on games that you play for 6 hours then compare it without the amount of time you spend on Decerto.

Same thing applies to ECL. Entry and Spectator tickets are a minor inconvenience (for those that have some expendable income) because it is supporting that event and ensuring it has opportunities to grow. I tell you if nobody goes to EGL4 and the event is already booked then that would be a massive dent in a business. and from that point EGL might continue to not exist.

I'm not saying you 'have' to support everything that comes along, but if you're passionate about gaming and you love using Decerto there isn't much harm in supporting it in every way you can. Even the articles on the frontpage receives not social love, people don't tweet the articles, people don't like them on facebook or google (Ok, maybe you don't want gaming shizz in certain spaces). But to put that in perpspective we have 350 users online at the same time and over 1,500 members visiting Decerto each day which doesn't include the 50,000 Unique visitors and 5,000,000+ pageviews we get each month.

The point i'm trying to get across is that people should feel motivated to do everything they can to make esports mainstream in everyway they can possibly contribute. I've purchased ECL spectator tickets without even going because i know it helps the cause. I've spent maybe £1k+ funding Decerto without the possibility or wanting the possibility of seeing that money back because i'm actually passionate about gaming. People have spent countless hours working at events for relatively no money so that the event runs smoothly. People have spent countless hours & money operating organisations that are there for your benefit i.e (Fnatic, SKGaming, ECL) There are companies which are willing to sponsor events and tournaments either to give back to the community or to make you aware of products that when purchased could be a benefit to your hobby. Smellymoss made a great post about people taking interest in Sponsors/Advertisers/Parntners of eSports organisation and in reality all that is needed is just one click of a mouse and if it interests you from then maybe consider purchasing something.

I know your post didn't deserve this wall of text and it might receive a few "didnotreads" but i thought posting my opinion on this might readjust some peoples thinking. I think there is too much a "take" attitude around this scene and it isn't healthy for esports on a global scale. We all need to work together to make this as successful as possible so i would appreciate any suggestions that people have that Decerto can do.

As much as people would love to keep running Decerto forever and for free. Ultimately it would be hard to keep the motivation there. This is as honest and as frank i'll ever be, but for esports to grow people need to consider organisations to be businesses and need to be more realistic in their expectations. ECL is a business, Decerto is a business, MLG is a business, Razer is a business, Steelseries is a business, Fnatic is a business, SK Gaming is a business, Dignitas is a business... I could go on.

EDIT: I actually went back and read it, you made good points but I don't game competitively anymore and dont follow the scene, so idc about attending LANs and supporting the industry anymore. I'm a **** but thats how I roll, now I just use the site for the fifa section and the football thread.

So overall, is the VIP service purchasable now?

I paid for a 2 year subscription (£15). I don't feel I have received my moneys worth yet.

I would pay and support, but when you guys just assume you are right and don't listen to the communities requests its really fucking annoying. e.g. We complain about staff on the site all of the time, cyni is doing a decent job, but when staff can ban you for no reason or because of a personel reason, that is far from fair to be honest.

You guys have partnered up with begosu, but sweet fuck all about it and don't run anything, so whats the point? unless you got a deal with them saying we can £5 free creds as a decerto vip and get discounts for ECl and other things, and get first choice for accom and stuff at decerto partnered events.

You guys literally expect us to pay £30 to pay for decerto when all we get out of it is a special name color, access to a forum no one uses and access to special content like 6 hours before. ?

Make it worth my while, and ill donate far more than £30, but fuck me. It isn't worth my time atm.
