I've wanted to start doing more articles on Decerto after my recent absence from the website. With that in mind I decided to interview someone who has achieved a lot in the scene but someone you won't find on every page telling you he's the best. Someone who fits that bill is Tom 'Tommey' Trewern of apeX gaming, one of Europe's best teams at the moment. Murdoch: Evening Tom. How're you? Tommey: Sup. I'm pretty good thanks mate. - Riddlez, Blackk, Bissell and Tommey representing Royalty at ECL2 - Murdoch: Getting straight in to it; you recently brought home your 1st place seed at ReflexGT5. How was it for you? Tommey: Going in to the event we felt pretty confident. Straight off we just played sick even with a pick up and me changing roles. Although it looked like our game against vital.Spain was close it was a game we were never going to lose. Everything from then on was pretty straight forward. I was expecting to meet FragSeason in the final again and we did. Murdoch: And what did you make of Fragseason? They looked like as good as one could expect from a pick up team? Tommey: We knew it'd be a tough game as they're all good players but after getting use to how they played it was simple from then on. Granted, we struggled a little bit in the final but I'm putting that down to us all being tired. Murdoch: Fair enough. In the nicest way possible, did Reflex feel at all like a non-event considering you'd recently attended CoD XP? Tommey: I wouldn't really say that but going from winning $70,000 to €1,200 is a big drop. But it's still good coming away with 1st place and the prize money. Murdoch: You picked up Steve ‘Mohog’ Hartland for the event. Whilst you still came away with 1st, was it harder not having Black? Tommey: We had like a week to choose a player so it was either find an AR to do Blackks job or find an SMG/OBJ with me taking the AR role. In the end I convinced my team to get an SMG as I've always wanted to play as an Assault. Not really sure If it was harder as everyone played sick. - Tommey, Riddlez, Crookz and Blackk representing apeX at CoD XP - Murdoch: As we've said you recently flew over to LA to play the CoD XP event where you walked away with $70,000 between you. How was the trip and what did you think of MW3? Tommey: The trip was good. We didn't have much free time but the whole event itself was amazing. In the tournament we could have done a lot better but we went into the infused game with the wrong attitude. With regards to MW3 the game itself played well. I’m not sure how it'll be for competitive play as the rules used sucked hard. It’s an improvement on Black Ops though. Murdoch: Since coming back from Reflex your pick up, Mohog, and Vintage and Monksy from Fragseason have helped form two big new teams. Do you think they'll give apeX a challenge come EGL? Tommey: Mohog/Monksy have been known as top players on Black Ops for a while now. Especially Mohog on LAN. If they both get their stuff down then they'll both be teams to watch out for, definitely. Murdoch: It's common knowledge that you are attending MLG Orlando soon. How well prepared are you for it? Tommey: Well, since getting back from RGT5 we haven’t played that much. In the coming weeks we'll be playing near enough every night but at the moment we are waiting on our PS3s to arrive, So we can't really fully prepare until that happens. We entered into the iCons Tournament recently and ended up playing OpTic/Rambinos team in Round 3. We lost the CTF 1-0 and the Domination by about 30+ points (remember it was on an American host). After the game Rambino went on to twitter and tipped us to make it out of the AM Bracket with ease. Murdoch: As a team did it cross your mind to replace Black with Mohog after Reflex? Tommey: Not at all, before REFLEX we told Steve/Mohog It'd only be for this on event. Murdoch: How do you think you'll do at MLG? Tommey: If we sort out what we're doing on a few maps and we play our best I think we could make it to the Groups and then hopefully make it into the Top 5. Murdoch: If all goes to plan will you be hoping to attend more MLG events after this one? Tommey: If our managers are pleased with our placements and we keep up with what we've been doing I guess so. Murdoch: Who do you see as your biggest challenge for EGL? Tommey: We've not really scrimmed any teams from Decerto since we formed. I guess it’ll be the same teams/people as usual but there has been some new teams that could put up a good fight. Our biggest competition will most likely be infused or FNATIC depending on who they pick up. Murdoch: Individual skill wise who do you see as the best players on Black Ops and why? Tommey: Never really thought of who's the best individual player. Erm I'd have to say Gotaga as an SMG/Objective player and Maxxie with the AR/Slaying Role. He's one of the players I've actually thought “woah he's good” mostly because at EGL3 he wouldn't stop killing me. Murdoch: Do you plan to carry on to MW3 with the current apeX lineup? Tommey: Yep. Everything is going well so far. We all get on well and we're winning so I can't see us splitting in the near future Murdoch: How has Decerto as a website progressed since you joined? Tommey: It's certainly grown a hell of a lot, the new 'Decerto Live' feature is good also. The website itself has improved majorly. It's just a shame you see this influx of players from GB who play Decerto Scrims all the time yet won't attend a LAN. - Tommey, Adamzi, TommyD, Slayr1 representing TCM at ECL3 - Murdoch: Quick fire Murdoch: DE or MLG rules?
