Sorry if theres a thread about this kinda stuff but i cant find it. So im 18 and i passed my driving test yesterday, and ive had my 1982 mini mayfair waiting in my garage for some time. So i look for classic car insurance and im getting silly quotes of like 3k-15-k, 3k isnt too bad but theres no way i can afford it, ive been to the co-op young drivers website, but they wont insure me because 'the car does not meet the requirements' so was just wondering if anybody knows any sites i can have a look at, would be appreciated. Thanks.
yeah i went to them straight away, and got quoted £3084, its a 1litre so its not like its over powered.
My mate got quoted 300ish for his 2Ltr Mustang (Not sure of year) It should be cheap as it's over 15 years old, also mines it doesn't need tax If im correct. I'd try ringing company's and talk to them rather than online as it's mis-leaing with quotes.
yes its tax exempt which helps, but yeah im going to ring up a few places then, rung up adrian flux, there service is terrible. cheers tho
I assumed that aswel but I assume they go off the 'write off value' which isnt much for an old car. Fair enough it was some 'rare classic' but its not (The mustang, or this). Also guess they think that young drivers who drive these are more sensible, I only assume btw as I dont know but I know my mate laughed because he had to pay 3k first year for his fiesta and got offered the Mustang for 300 insurance-wise
give footman+james a ring and ask for a classic policy, if they give you a rubbish quote try Aviva that's who i'm with, i pay £900 for a 1275 cooper. FYI your car has to be made before 1973 for it to be tax exempt.
oh i got told it was, the tax shouldnt be that much anyway, btw how old are you if you dont mind me asking and have you got any no claims?
i pay 140for the full year for tax, i was 19 with 0 years ncb, but ive got mods on mine, wheels, arches, exhaust, seats.
yeah i have mods to, been resprayed, wheels, exhaust, seats etc. thanks mate ill give them both a call tomorrow.
@zLocKdowN did you get you're insurance on you're own policy? or was you a named driver on i.e you're mom or dads policy?
Just got rid of my golf gt tdi pd130 because my boss's insurance changed there policy to gotta be over 21. so tried classic car insurance for mk1 mazda mx5 eunos, wouldn't insure me gotta be 24. Thought hmmm, oka lets try a 1.2 clio, been driving like 6 month quoted 3.4k, meh.
