Game Transfer Phenomena (GTP) is the transfer of video game experiences to the real world; like hearing, seeing or doing things in real life as in the video game. In the first GTP study some players reported seeing text boxes above peoples’ heads, seeing images of video games when trying to sleep, looking for game pads in the air when something happened in real life, wanted to use video games elements in real life or suddenly doing a behaviour or action as in the video games without intending to do so. In most of the cases these experiences lasted short periods of time but sometimes the experiences occurred recurrently. I am doing a survey as part of my PhD and I would like to invite you. The purpose of my project is to clarify and demystify players’ phenomenological experiences in order to maximize the benefits of interactive media, as well as to understand automatic mental, physiological and behaviour processes that can be relevant in different areas of the sciences. You are welcome to participate in the survey, there you can read other players experiences and check if you have experienced GTP and what types. The results will be published in my blog. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey. www.gametransferphenomena.com/survey.html You are welcome to visit my website where you can find more information about the GTP project, join my Facebook group and check out my blog. Well I remember having experiences like that around 1/2 years ago, when I played xbox more - and I used to dream about video games quite a bit. This will be an interesting topic, I'll do the survey later.
Sometimes it is difficult to know how voluntary or involuntary are this type of experiences. Sometimes occurred like a slip of the tongue but in other occasions it becomes like a habit. When someone keeps on calling me. I usually hear the voice from RE5 and say "I am coming". RE5 style. I played this game a year ago and this automatic response does not go away.
Did the survey and left a comment, basically said that the vast majority of the questions were far to extreme, weird shit like seeing health bars above peoples heads or climbing on top of a roof after playing Mirrors Edge... Like most people dreaming is the closest thing on the spectrum to GTP. However, (I cba at the moment to outline) scientists believe that authentic dreams are our way of reinforcing memories or patterns of thought, perhaps our brains are trying to become better at the game by going over experiences they had that day, in brief, we don't know enough about dreaming or what it is about to associate it fully with GTP.
Used to see the green/red aim marker off halo on people for a brief period of time when Halo 2 was my life
Never had it with a game, apart from when I played WoW and went to the shop, bought something and asked how much gold it was over the counter, safe to say I got rid of the game after that. Watched 3 seasons of prison break in a row with no sleep, went out got drunk and then started thinking I was part of the show, shouting at my mates asking how we're gonna break out and shit, freaked me out majorly.
Had instances of this, only incredibly briefly after playing for literally hours and hours, day after day. Reminded me of this.
The only thing I think is - When seeing someone with a brief case is where they are going to plant, A or B.
Sleep talked about planting a claymore and telling people to rush A bomb (facepalm) if that's not commitment i don't know what is EDIT: not even lieing my dad told me the next morning haha
Can remember watching soccer with my dad and a goal was scored and i shouted "What a kill" was pretty awkward, really made me realize i was playing to much
this is also the closest for me, pretty sad considering i've poured hours upon hours into gaming - it'd be pretty cool to dream about it but it hasnt happened yet unfortunately
Never had anything like this. But when i worked for wincantons they had a automated picking system it would tell you part of a number and you had to say the rest of the number when u found the pallet. and to get it to repeat the number you had to say "Say Again" my gf said i would start saying random numbers in my sleep like 672 , 234 and so on and "Say Again" and "Repeat Aisle". she even recorded me lol. was pretty funny.
Did bash minecraft for like 15 hours straight.. went down my stairs to get some food and i was imagining everything were cubes etc.. think thats relevant
That must have been the effects from drugs, you weren't actually playing minecraft, you just thought you were
Interesting to read your comments. I am still looking for participants for the GTP survey. The purpose of my project is clarify players' phenomenological experiences through explaining why, when and how GTP occurs, in order to maximize the benefits of interactive media and contribute to different areas of the sciences. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey. http://www.gametransferphenomena.com/survey.html Research is lacking in this area. We need your help!
