I'm quite interested on the staff remark Razor, AFAIK there's only me and Loco in top teams who are both on staff, so who was that aimed at exactly? Its also nice to be an underdog in peoples eyes for a change
As I have said many times before I like to make sure I let everyone get their opinion out in the open, so for this weeks Emo on Esport I thought I would interview someone who's always been around, but doesn't say too much. He's no other than Alex 'Razor' McBride from teamNemico and the Naughty Bandits. I sit him down to talk about everything from how he got into gaming, attending events and even what he thinks of Decerto. Emo: Can you introduce yourself to all those Decerto readers who don't know who you are? Alex: My name is Alex McBride, and play under the name Razor. I'm 17 and from the capital of the world, Newcastle. Im currently leader of The Naughty Bandits and teamNemico and have been for nearly 2 years! Outside of gaming im still at sixth form and studying ICT, Media, Psychology and Business studies. I also work at the mighty Matalan! Emo: Does studying psychology give you an advantage in gaming? Alex: Absoultly not, we learn about why people have OCDs and phobias, and things related to the mind. So unless you have a OCD of where you have to do a certain ritual before a game I can't gain an advantage from it, or if you were abused as a child I could help. Thats about it. Emo: So it doesnt come in to gaming much? It doesn't really come into gaming in the parts that I study, but parts of it can be seen. Just in the way that people act and their behaviour to it. As in the ranking systems and such like as there are people who do anything to be #1 and others who dont care. It can't be exactly seen, extracts are there. The next Wayne Rooney or DenimCoat? Emo: Can you tell us something about yourself that no one else knows? Alex: Not really anything interesting, however I did once play for a football team that won one game in a season and I was top goalscorer with a grand total of 6 goals. Emo: Who was the team? Alex: Consett Blues, sad to say the team ended after that season. I also went into a early retirement. Emo: How did you first get into competitive gaming? Alex: Back onto Gears of War1, I was playing with a couple of the lads from my school (Hen and Swannyyy). Then we were playing a public game and some random guy (KomBaT) asked us if we wanted trails for his team and we agreed. So onto Tyro stations for a 1v1 torque bow battle. I lost but still got in. So onto GB to storm the ladder and did quite well, and KomBaT then said why don't we try XLeague so gave that a go and we played on that with a few faces from now (Rymz, Bendall). We managed to qualify for the live TV final. We entered thinking this would be quite good to play against some decent people and have a go at that, but that season Dig and all the other teams went. Never the less we went to Canary Warf in London to play, accompnied by Hen. We ended up losing 3-0 and were pretty gutted with it, but enjoyed it and wanted to go more into gaming. Emo: What are Hen and Swannyy like in real life compared to online? Alex: They are pretty much the same as everyone I have played with I have been in their team for a while and they are sort of my mascots <3. So we get relaxed with the people and act naturally. Swannyy just enjoys winding people up on GB and Decerto just for the crack. Hens a pretty laid back guy and if he could ever be bothered to get a team would easily dominate half of the people on this game, so me and Edge forced them to go ECL just so they would join a team then maybe when we got EGE get a team for that, Emo: EGL Manchester was your first full LAN event that you attended. Did you enjoy the event? Alex: Yeah, we just wanted to attend a event as I joined Nemico just weeks after XL6 so it was a little late to enter that. So when ESGN was cancelled I was gutted. Then Kermz dropped out of going and we needed a player just to attend. I knew Natural for a while from my very first CoD team so asked him to join and after a few days we just went their not expecting much and didn't get much but we really knew that was going to happen. The event as a whole was good and got me back into gaming and the reason I went DGC to keep going to LANs as I loved EGL. Even at LAN they couldn't get their backs off the wall. Celsus Mode [Enabled] Emo: How was the DGC experience? Alex: DGC was a great experience and something I wish to do again, in October. It was more of a social LAN experience that what Xleague and EGL was. As we went out in Amsterdam (I'm sure you've heard the stories) and just generally around travelling there and back. As for the actual gaming it was good, it was the first time that i'd played MW2 on a LAN so didn't really know what to expect. It was a lot better than CoD4 in my view as its more fast paced, and a little unpredictable. Overall a great experience and everyone should get to the next one! Emo: For those who are yet to attend LAN would you say it's worth the cost? Those who are yet to attend a LAN should defiantly attend one, especially with ECL coming up. People are always going on about the costs and how much it costs and blow it out of proprtion, you could easily go to LAn on around £100 which is basically a weeks pay. People go on about meeting the people you've spoke with online and it's actually great having a laugh with them and makes it much better. You have a much better time than online and get to know each other better, and it does improve your team when your back, and builds confidence. Anyone should go to a LAN even if just for one, and see whats it like. I assure you that you will want to go again, not many people go and don't want to again so must say something. Emo: Moving away from gaming, you are quite negative on Decerto in recent times especially with staff, what is the reasoning behind this? Alex: I just think that sometimes that they are stupid, most of them including you even at one point just use no common sense what so ever. It frustrates me that people spend so much time on it and then the staff can't run it efficently. One of the main things was KerrBear as she really was apointed due to being a girl, theres no doubt and it was even said to attract a female audience which is wrong in my view. I have been given infractions for just luadacris things and if you want people to use your website why not treat them well and not do everything that you can to discipline them? Emo: How do you think Decerto can change to make it better? Alex: Get some educated staff and not just recruit due to how good they are at the game basically every member of staff has been in a top team or is in one and its just silly why they should be recruited by that. Decerto need to be open to everyone and get some of the lesser know members to be staff. You don't need a good M16 to close a thread, it's just not relevent. Basically they just need a dose of common sense. Emo: Can you tell us about your two teams you currently represent? Alex: teamNemico is my main team, I've have been a team for 2 years now which is quite a while for most gaming teams these days. I joined back in July 08 and somehow I managed to become the leader and ever since then Kermz and Tubez have left a couple of times but like rats keep crawling back. We're a MW2 team only as me and Edge and Elmo cant be bothered to sweat CoD4. So just for EGE and Opal Arena. Breaking Point breaking faces at DGC Emo: What are your predictions for ECL? Alex: My predictions are that: Royal x, SqR, Reign, us, Validus. Can see Royalty failing at this LAN on CoD4, for some reason only played them a couple of times but not really as impressed. Emo: A final gaming question. As a former Celsus player, how do you feel that the term 'Celsus Mode' is still used to this day as a term for camping? Alex: Fantastic, it was created by eGo (DPTB) so they get the credit for that. As far as it still used is great for Celsus, it's basically the most known team EU. Even kids in a GB the other day on Hardcore said it to me, used to get wound up by it but now I couldn't care and actually find it funny. As far as the camping goes I'll do it until we win the game, I saw it badly at DGC and it works so till the end. Celsus mode [Enabled] Emo: In a slight twist, would you like to ask me a question your dying to hear the answer to? Alex: Where do you want Decerto to go in the future, and would you ever return to playing again? Emo: I just want to get it to be as big as possible and maybe even make a living out of it some day. Console Esports is the future, MLG has showed that and although PC dominates at the moment I can't see it continuing like that forever, especially with consoles getting into more and more houses. The competitive scene can only grow from exposure and sheer number of players. Decerto will hopefully be at the forefront of that helping bring coverage to the masses. Eventually we'll expand with other network sites that we are working on and bring in some high profile partners like peripheral companies. That's if Joel can keep the website up that is . As far as coming back to play I will always try and play when I can but I much prefer watching and covering Esport than actually playing as I am pretty dire these days! When you go neg in public's you know you should stick to writing. Emo: Ok thanks for the interview Alex, would you like to say any final words or comments? Alex: Just like to shoutout to my team(s) Edge, Elmo, Kermz, Tubez, Swanny, Hen, Tom, Tobi, Gunshi ect and everyone that went to events. Also you Emo and Decerto keep up the good work! You can compete against or watch Alex play at ECL this July 30th to 1st August in Liverpool! Search ECL on the forums for more details.
