This is my first article in a while, so I thought I would share my thoughts about our community and some brutal home truths. Although many will probably disagree you will all deep down know where I am coming from, at least in my head you should.

    The GameBattles website

The immortal phrase 'Go back to GB' gets thrown about so much on Decerto lately and it's actually starting to drive me crazy. It's such a stupid phrase for so many reasons that it's hard to even explain, however I will give it a go and lets hope change some minds in the process.

That stupid sentence will probably go down in history as the most used insult towards others on Decerto. The person giving out the abuse probably thinks that it will make the other person feel small and belittled, making them whimper away back to the confines of their GB rank and disputes like a bouncer knocking away an 18 year old that doesn't have any ID.

Now my problem lies here, 99.99% of Decerto CoD users both past and present will have come from GB. That's right, the ONLY reason you know about competitive gaming is because you were educated using those black ladders with blue writing, fighting your way up the ladder to gain that all important XP ready for the playoffs. So can you not see the complete hipocrisy that you all throw insults out like 'Go back to GB' instead of looking at the positives of those coming over?

    Less of this.....

I am one of the few users that can actually say that GameBattles wasn't where I originated as I started out on one of the first console ladder websites, Team Compete. It featured the worlds worst website system and one that I never wish to visit again. They would probably still be flying high if they didn't make the worst decision ever when they tried to charge every single user for using the facilities, it just lead to everyone moving over to GB, which at the time was actually considering rather an up it's arse website, with teams using different rules to what we used on TC, something I am sure those who look down on GB now will laugh at.

Back to Decerto 2010 and we are faced with a small identity crises, people are not sure what kind of website we are and where this community will go. Now for many they will cry 'Oh it's not like the old days'. Well of course it's not, why are you trying to live in the past? You old timers seem to be forgetting that just as much crap was talked back then as it is now, if anything we probably moderate more than ever. So why do you continually shut down people that try to come over, people that only a year ago probably resembled yourself?

You can't claim superiority over someone else just because what they have so far learned in competitive gaming is GB, yes the mentality is perhaps a little childish over there but if someone tries to make the move towards Decerto then instantly gets flamed by a 'certified' member of our community, then is it any wonder that you all complain that the community is going downhill and everyone is talking crap?

How about instead of flaming each other constantly to try get one up, you accept that people have to come from somewhere and that there might be a bit of a learning process before they act like they should. The Decerto community needs to actually stick together instead of constantly fighting off new players who want to become more competitive gamers. We need to teach them the mentality that we don't try look for free wins when we can and that if rules are wrong when you start the round, that it's pretty easy to restart it with the correct ones. You might give some banter in game or at LAN, but at the end of it, you shake hands or have a laugh about it and say good game, because that is what Decerto is about.

    ...more of this

So I ask you this, how about you don't give abuse to the new members, try and teach them a thing or two about Decerto and how we play. Let's turn this community in the right direction towards fair competitive play, rather than mimicing an attitude we all claim to be far superior too.

As the old saying goes, don't crap on your own doorstep.

too many idiots who think they are better than everyone else because they have been here longer. They are the people killing the community, not the new members advancing from GB

you will find the majority of people who come from gb are *****s anyway, gbs fun to play sometimes but the people on it are idiots.

maybe 2% on gb are fair or dont chat ****

No matter what anyone says people will still use "the sentence" - especially anyone who 'drop-shots' a lot, as though GB users invented the 'tactic'.

Dont care what anyone says , this site went to **** when decerto ran that whole get them of gb to decerto drive , idiots and f/a threads followed in there millions....

yeah its irritating when ppl reply with things like 'notsureifsrs' because a new user puts his gb rank in his introduction/recruitment thread. obv the guy didnt know, and hes only trying to make himself look better, no need to scare them off.

but tbh 95% of the ppl who sign up to this site never visit it more than once, and the quality of threads have gone down since last year.

Plus you could also argue that the mentality of gb players have changed. When i played gb on a serious and constant basis, which was around seasons 3-8, nobody used to dispute, use jug, and there wasn't many childish immature kids on the scene. Unlike nowadays where u pretty much always face a bunch of 13 yr olds who dispute for any possible reason they can, and bring jug out as soon as they lose a round.

forgot where im tryin to go on this post ;p

I completely understand you and encourage them coming over to what I think is a better standard of gaming, however, what I don't like is people coming onto this website and posting '3v3 snipers' and ridiculous things like that. Thats the thing that annoys me more then anything.

Good write, except that everyone already knows this and only a few apply this, most people read it and forget about it. It's good your putting it in the spotlight again and the few minds u changed? are a good thing, but I think that there needs to be a strong policy on this if you want to change it, risk is people could start hating for not being able to say what they want to say.

I completely agree. Maybe make a new page called "About" or "Guide" or something so that before people can post, they have to read it. I'm sure there's a guide thread somewhere that could be turned into a page?

hmm kinda agree and disagree with this one , i think you will find that usually the majority welcome new people when they introduce themselves or their team in the right way it's when you get completely new people who just chat crap to everyone ... good read though

yeah there are some "bad eggs" so to speak but I'd say a good 75% of people who come over aren't too bad once they get to know how things work around here.

That's what I mean, but it's usually in frustration of getting owned, people say "get the **** off the floor and get back to GB" or of similar wording - and then they go and do it. It's not like ONLY GB "warriors" do it, yet it seems a necessity to moan about it if you fall a victim of it.

I've never heard anyone moan about drop shotting tbh. I moan if I get knifed, who actually plays on default button layout?

Lets throw in some ****ty picture and make myself look cooooooooolz. Honestly, you're a freak. Stop dribbling.

OT: To me, it wouldn't matter if they had general common sense. The fact is 80% of posts I see are as mentioned "3v3 snipe scrims" etc etc. This isn't what people want to see the site clogged up with. This is what prompts the "go back to Gb" comments. Not the fact they are themselves from GB.
