Didn't attend so from my point of view main negative was the stream. Had real trouble viewing it even on 240p (a lot of which is down to twitch I know) which was frustrating. Coverage of the event from decerto was spot on as always.
Not being funny and i hope that whoever that team was will back me up when i say this, that rule needs to be changed, its totally unfair. You cant say what could or would of happened, i get that, but what did happen was i timed out when we were winning and to take that flag off of us because of something that wasn't our fault is not right. If we had just restarted from the 2nd round with our flag cap intact we would of beat wW and maybe changed the whole outcome of theirs and our tournament. Is their any chance of that rule changing for future events to something, which in my eyes is a little more fair?
First day was a bit of a joke tbh was told to be at the event for 10 and played our first game 8 or 9 hours later :/ also the connection was a bit annoying but apart from that the event was good imo
I take part responsibility for the shittyness of the main stage stream although the down time was not down to me, I've been speaking to someone from the EGL Core staff who does SC2 and we've sorted something that will reduce the downtime IF we play MW3 online again. It's quite simply really, we just have a station wait until the main stage is finished and then we join their game straight away while another pair of teams setup on the mainstage so hopefully we can get constant action. Again, that is IF we continue doing MW3 online.
From the games that I ref'd any disconnections were made to restart unless search, as you can easily give rounds to each team. In CTF If someone disconnects that just how this event went, you cannot say whether one team should have an advantage over another as there would be no way to tell. Also to your point about you being 1flag up, Im sure if wW were one flag up then you lot would of wanted to restart the full map so there was no bias decision involved. Simply the decision which was made across the whole tournament as a whole. It was not because it was wW (Which you keep implying) as the same would of been done if you were against X team, whether they were wW or someone who were seeded 90th. Thanks to @Millo @Razor for the comments, was a good event and hopefully everyone was happy with how the tournament turned out for the weekend, Enjoyed watching the top seeded teams from first person which is always a bonus.
Will do a proper post later, however one thing I think would be popular and would personally like to see is an all star game.
The rule on disconnections was to inconsistant as people already stated, and all it needed was mellow to tannoy out and clear things up.
I see both sides of the disconnect rule as anything could happen if there is/was over 10 seconds left (depending where people are on the map) but if teams are say 2-0 up with 40 seconds to a minute left and it disconnects there shouldn't be a replay because of the percentage of a comeback in that time (depending on map also). The event ran pretty smoothly from my eyes perhaps the AM bracket could of been change / done different (i.e. done earlier) as there were a couple of free stations for a good few hours (saw some foreign teams scrimming other teams/people playing pubs). The thing @AAstekz said about mix amps was true a team with mix amps had perfects comms without it was near impossible to hear/communicate properly, not sure of the reason for no mix amps but definitely try to get them back for next EGL. The music was so freaking loud not sure how it was for those with mixamps+headset setup but without it was quite a big distraction. When teams were playing and there were crowds around them it left little room for the other teams that were playing at there stations to get comfortable / not squeezed in, saw it a number of times and even when some teams had to play at a station all of the seats were used to watch the CoD main stage and then had people just leaning against the stations so they couldn't get in. (Think they just swapped to a different station but still seemed an inconvenience). If the site used for the bracket system was slightly more accessible on mobile phones/tablets it would of been a treat. Was my first LAN since ECL1 but it was great coming back to the scene and seeing it get nearly 100 more teams than ECL1 had. A suggestion a number of us had talking was that if we hit 128+ teams maybe bring out a PRO/AM bracket system, but have say top 64 teams are in the pro bracket and then another bracket for the top 65 onwards, or of course make a super event with tons more stations / one day specifically for CoD only to get a number of the games out of the way i.e. on the friday. Great event though guys
Yeah that would be good be done by like community vote 16 players names from 'pro' teams and have 4 all star teams made to play a mini thing on the side. Would be really good/fun to watch.
No I would take the restart from the start of the second half with them still having the flag they scored. I don't know how you can justify taking a flag off a team that's earned it, especially if its three quarters of the way through. As for the bias i said it felt like that and as you weren't there at the time of the game (i presume) you wouldnt have seen what was going on. For starters we didnt have a referee, for some reason Jarman took it upon himself to ref saying razor (or another staff) gave him permission. Then when the incident happened he didn't have a clue what to do so he went and got mellow, mellow came over and went straight to black and made his decision off of what he said which wasn't even true. Mak and tobi sat there silent knowing that the decision was unfair. It was my first LAN and no one informed me about the possibility of timing out and the rule that went with it... Shit rule.
In CTF I think the rule should be... Play the remaining amount of time that was left before the timeout + the time it takes to run from one flag to the other.
That confuses things though, time it takes to run with extreme con or not? Different routes? Too many things to think about, wouldnt work.
It was how the whole tournament was ran, It wasn't like mellow or any other ref/admin had twisted a decision in wW's favour, they are simply what the tournament rules/guidelines were. Im assuming the game was prior to 11AM on Sunday, as onwards from that I would of seen the game/been around and I dont remember the incident. @Bold, Everyone was pre-told that the event was going to be ran online, which always leads to the fact that it could potentially go down (as any network could) and even If you feel the rule wasn't fair or justified for your game, It worked for 99% of the tournament and that is an achievement for the staff involved as the amount of time outs and other issues were on a big scale. The only way it can ever be done is decision based on the game itself. There is way to many things which could counter any decision. Generally most team's agree'd whether to restart or to play. For example with an Apex.Ger game(Think it was), They dc'd with around 10seconds left at 1-1 and just decided to play the second half at 0-0 which didn't delay the bracket at all.
^^ Definitely needs to be more staff about with a bit of backbone, nobody was enforcing anything. People were playing publics or joining parties with their mates and what not on free stations. Also needs to be some form of barrier around the stations so people don't literally sit right behind you breathing down your neck all game, it's massively off putting.
Glad my ref work on the first day was appreciated, did a shit load of games and running about although i'm happy to admit I didn't referee a single game on day 2. Big shoutout to @Razor for the way he ran the event, he deserves some form of gaming award from the queen
Like MLG had the East vs West coast thing could probably do UK vs EU, North vs South or UK vs US if American teams start attending, sick idea. My thoughts on the whole event - Lighting: needs sorting out, the flashing/changing of light colours was shite. - Screen watching: It happened to our team and by the looks of it prophecy, really need to think about where the stations are placed/have Refs behind each time to stop it, also turning off game sound would be great. - Music: I enjoyed it how ever the speakers where shite quality and just got on your nerves when playing having some buzzing sound put you off also it needs turning down slightly. - More Stations: Just obvious, more stations are needed with the bigger turn outs and also you should have above the bracket where the game is going to be played so teams can go to the station and be ready to play as soon as the last game finishes. - The projector: When we was playing on the Mini stage the projector light went straight into two of our players eyes so that needs sorting. - Chairs: More. - Extra day/testing: Could do a mini pre-LAN the day before to test connection the day before and make sure everything works fine. Overall good job to all the staff for getting everything finished in time and keeping on top of the connection issues.
The connection was tested, i think Razor actually posted above what the problem was with the connection and you will be able to see that no ammount of testing would of prevented that. The issue came from one of the wires being damaged throughout the day, trolleys being ran over it made it worse. In a wire all the little bits inside need to connect, just one tiny little gold pin wasn't touching where it should be and this caused all the issues. We know that it was far from ideal however it was out of the events control to some extent...This is where LAN lobbies would of meant a perfect, smoothly run tournament. No other game at the event suffered from the network issues (I think). @kenny I appreciate you feel a little hard done to however this was a rule that was consistently followed throughout all of the different stations. It actually happened to Imperial.Gold when on mainstage vs apeX.NA - We managed to draw out the bad side and looked set for a flag cap which would have meant the lead - Like i say this rule was consistently followed despite the teams that it benefitted (Imperial being Mellows org and the decision didn't benefit them). I saw this happen a few times to various teams - apX.Ger, LiNK, G8, eNigma just to name a few, i guess you can't please everybody with decisions made however this was followed consistently throughout the whole event (from what i saw anyway) Other than that great work by @Razor and the rest of the staff in my opinion, I had an amazing time at this event, the only negative for me was the connection but i have explained that above...
