EGL 5: Questions, Answers and Information

EGL 5 Blackpool will be held on the 7th and 8th of April. The games that will feature with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Halo Reach and Gears of War.

This thread will be mainly aimed at MW3 as this thread mostly caters for that game, however if you are wanting any information on any other area or game just ask and I'll try and find out for you.

I'll add any questions that you ask into the thread below, however here are some common asked questions. For some people some questions may need obvious however this will be many players' first event.

General Information

Tournament registration will open at 9am Saturday, although there will be a pre-registration available on Friday afternoon starting at 4pm. The tournament will start at 10am Saturday and finish at around 11pm. Tournament play will restart at 10am on Sunday and the final will be played at around 9pm.

When is the event and where?

The EGL 5 event is being held in Blackpool, the dates for the vent are the 7th and 8th of April. This weekend is a bank holiday weekend which would help most people out as you will usually be off school, work ect.

How can I get there?
A travel guide has been provided by EGL (link below) which should help you to decide on how to get to the event and what the cheapest option would be. I’d personally highly recommended that everyone gets a 16-25 travel card, if you are lucky enough to be in this age bracket. As if this will give you 1/3 off your travel for a whole year, so usually on the first trip it cancels its self out. The second trip you will save, which could be EGL 6!

Where can I stay?
Blackpool is mainly a tourist town, this means that there are lots of hotels and independently run B&B’s this means that competition is high, which brings prices down for you! If you look around you can get the best deals, an accommodation help thread will also be up at some point, so keep an eye out for that. You should remember if you stay far away from the event, you will have to pay for taxis or trams, which should be something to consider.

Are EGL getting a discount with a hotel, similar to ECL Loughbourgh?
Due to Blackpool having few big hotels which could hold a lot of gamers its highly unlikely that EGL are going to be selling hotels rooms. This means that it is up to you to find a hotel. Talk to other teams and friends and all stay in the same area would be my advice. It is stupidly easy to find a hotel in Blackpool, with just a few searches on Google.

How is the Call of Duty tournament being run?
The tournament will be run in the same style that it has been for the past events which is double elimination, this will mean that should of lose twice you will be knocked out. If this happens in the first 2 rounds you may be entered into amateur and intermediate brackets. (read below)

At previous events there was an amateur and intermediate bracket, will this be running again?
At this stage we can’t say 100% as I don’t know how many stations we have and other things, which means I can’t produce the full schedule yet, however it’s something I’d like to do again and will try to make happen again as I think last time it was a success. So watch this space and I’ll give a update on this when I can.

Will you be using seeds, and how are these done?
Seeds are still being discussed at this moment as there obviously hasn’t been a EGL event with MW3 being played. This means we can’t use the normal procedure for seeds, however we may use previous events as a guide, or running an online seedings tournament, all these are things I will look into and talk to players about to see what they think would be the best idea.

Which controllers are allowed at the event?
EGL have legalised the Scuf Gaming controller, the Razer Onza controller. Of course you can still use the regular wired controller that you get from Microsoft, providing it does not have modifications such as rapid fire buttons. The controller must be wired, no play and charge kits or wireless controllers.

Which headsets can be used, can I bring my own?
You may bring any headset that uses a USB to power it; you cannot plug anything into the mains power. We do not have the plugs available for you at the event. You don’t need to bring a headset, however without you will not get any game sound.

The following headsets are LAN compatible without a MixAmp:

The following headsets are LAN compatible with a MixAmp or LiveMix:

• Astro A30 • Astro A40 • SteelSeries v2 • SteelSeries 7H • SteelSeries 4XB • SteelSeries 5XB • Sennheiser PC350 • Sennheiser PC360 • QPAD QH-1339 • Consair HS1A Other PC headsets are compatible including headsets by Razer, Consair, Logitech and more.

The following headsets are NOT LAN compatible:

• Turtle Beach X3 • Turtle Beach X31 • Turtle Beach X4 • Turtle Beach X41 • Tritton AXPro • Tritton AX 720 • Sharkoon X-Tatic Analog • Sharkoon X-Tatic Digital

Are mix amps provided again?
No mix amps will not be provided, this is due to now players being able to hear each other in game unlike previous Call of Duty games, there may still be some mix amps for main stage however for the regular cod stations no mix amps will be available. These are also not available to rent.

Will there be feature station streams again?
This is still to be confirmed, however it’s something which I think those at home enjoyed so I will try to get 1 or more streams running dedicated to COD.

Will a FFA tournament be taking place?
No, due to the evnt being 2 days we do not have time to run the main tournament as well as an amateur and intermediate bracket. Unless players feel they would rather do a FFA than an amateur and intermediate bracket.

Will we be playing through closed connection (online) or on System Link LAN lobbies?
Due to MW3 not having LAN lobbies we will be playing online and the venue caters for this, if this changes and a update is released, it may be changed. ALL PLAYERS WILL NEED TO BRING A USB OR HDD WITH THEIR GAMERTAG ON.

What do we need to bring?
You will need:

• · Controller - Wired with no illegal modifications such as rapid fire buttons
• Gamertag loaded onto a USB or HDD - You will not be able to recover your account at the event!
• · Headset
• MW3 Disk
• Consent Forms
• · Booking reference email - To show you have bought ticket, needed during registration.
• · MW3 (Under 18s ONLY) - To accompany your 'Bring your own Media ticket' for under 18s.
• · Travel documents
• · Hotel booking form
• · Clothes ect.

I will make a checklist a few days before people leave to remind them on some of these things.

I’m under 18 and want to attend, where are consent forms?
These will be released closer to the time, make sure you bring this with you. These will take you minutes to fill out so don’t worry about them.

When and where will tickets be on sale?
The tickets will be released as soon as possible, the tickets will be released soon as early bird tickets with a £5 saving per ticket. I suggest you buy them soon to get a discount!

What happens if I buy a ticket then change team?
This is fine, you will just have to email support@ecl.eu to fix this.

What is the nearest mainline train station?
Blackpool North train station is the closest train station, I suggest you use this and get a taxi to the event/hotel.

Tricky, when a accommodation guide comes up just ring them and ask. Some places will however other places, just dont say anything. As long as you don't look about 4 they will be fine.

I disagree. We'll figure it out but we'd basically have to start seeds from scratch for that to happen. The unseeded teams tournament could happen though. We shall see.
